One of the most difficult things a first time author has to come to grips with, is the fact that a story they have written, may never see the light of day on a mainstream bookshop shelf. This is especially the case with authors who have managed publication through smaller publishers. The main reason is simply the costs associated with marketing (getting noticed) and distribution (getting sold), neither of which comes cheap. It takes a lot of luck and persistence for a first time author to achieve a dream, and to catch the eye of individuals (and bookstores!) who may, with a little encouragement, actually take the time to read the book and find they enjoy it!
The simplest and best way of helping a new author and a new book is by advertising it through word of mouth. Please consider telling someone about my book. Who knows, if it becomes popular and readers (especially children) regard it as a good story, then I may keep at this writing game for a bit longer!
